‘A Catharsis’ is an allegorical poem that describes the grief of a woman caught in a tempestuous relationship that is torturing her. Like the rain cloud that is pierced by cruel thunder, the maiden’s yearning for tender love is wrecked by ‘his’ electrifying passion. In un-consoling, self-destructive grief the rain is crying out her heart and soul and is threatening to destroy everything around her.
